Rurutu, terre de 'umuai na bombuj. Rurutu is a community where traditions forge ties between the inhabitants. In Avera since the beginning of the 20th century, the 'umuai is the biggest festival of the year, when collective weddings that sometimes bring together up to 17 couples, are celebrated together. Friends and families participate uninhibitedly with gifts, food, drinks, and dances: everything including joy is offered in abundance during these festivities that last several days. This is an essential part of the identity of this island.
