The Battle of the River Plate na bombuj. Několik dní před začátkem druhé světové války se německá kapesní bitevní loď Admiral Graf Spee vydala úžinou mezi Islandem a Grónskem, aby poté na čas zmizela v jižním Atlantiku. Podle rozkazů měla pod velením námořního kapitána Hanse Langsdorffa ničit nepřátelské obchodní lodě. Stihla potopit devět spojeneckých lodí, než si svůj cíl osudově zmýlila a nevyhnula se tak včas britské křižníkové skupině vedené komodorem Henry Harwoodem. Následná bitva této německé bitevní lodi a třech britských křižníků u ústí Rio de la Plata vstoupila do námořních dějin.
