The Fighting Kentuckian na bombuj. John Breen (John Wayne) z Kentucky, po pěti letech v armádě, potká ve městečku Mobile francouzskou dívku jménem Fleurette De Marchand (Věra Ralston-Hrubá). Okamžitě se do sebe zamilují. Potíž ovšem je, že Fleurette si má vzít Blake Randolpha (John Howard), a tak není John vítán. Pomocí lží si ovšem získá práci jako zeměměřič a odhalí spiknutí s pozemky, které chce Francouzům ukrást George Hayden (Grant Withers).
