The Island at the Top of the World na bombuj. Sir Anthony Ross je trochu prudší a impulzivní muž, jenže kdo by se mu divil. Jeho syn Donald Ross se před několika lety ztratil v ledových pustinách severního pólu a od té doby o něm nikdo neslyšel. Jen jeho eskymácký průvodce Oomiak se vrátil, ale z odvážného muže se během cesty stala bojácná troska. Sir Anthony dá dohromady záchrannou výpravu složenou z polárníka a badatele profesora Johna Ivarssona a francouzského kapitána Brieuxe se zeppelinem vlastní výroby a konstrukce. Podle Oomiakových instrukcí míří přímo do nejmrazivějšího kraje mrazu severu.
