Where the Red Fern Grows na bombuj. Vychází z jedné indiánské povídky o lásce dívky Andy a chlapce Dana, kteří se ztratí v zimě v lese a najdou je až na jaře, kde kolem jejich těl rostlo červené kapradí. Podle této povídky pojmenuje asi 12-ti letý Billy Coulmen své dvě štěnata loveckých psů, na které celé prázdniny dřel s dospělými chlapy v lese. Film je o přátelství chlapce a jeho dvou věrných psů, kteří mu v závěru filmu zachrání život, když jej v lese napadne puma.
